Enforcement action called off at the eleventh hour

Plans to remove a caravan blocking a pathway on public land at Walton have been called off after the owner moved it overnight.

The owner, who had pitched a caravan at Sunny Point, was served with a Direction to Leave by Tendring District Council (TDC) in February but did not comply.

TDC then successfully applied for a Court Order two weeks ago and was looking to take the next step today (March 14).

The Council has been speaking to the man for several months and it was thought that he had no intention of moving.

Progress was made however, and officers provided advice and assistance which helped the man secure private rented accommodation yesterday.

Paul Honeywood, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said he was pleased with the outcome.

“The Council has been able to provide advice to the gentleman and ultimately accommodation has been found and the situation resolved,” he said.

Nick Turner, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Commercialisation, Seafronts and Parking, said the desired outcome had been achieved.

“Whilst officers attended the site this morning with bailiffs, no enforcement action was needed and the best outcome has been achieved for all concerned.”
